Free ATS resume checker — score your resume against the job

Updated July 2026

Most applications are read by software before a human ever sees them. Paste the job description into Folium and you'll see, in about a minute, your ATS match score, the exact keywords the posting expects that your resume is missing, and a tailored copy you can download as a PDF — free, no sign-up, and your resume stays in your browser.

What an ATS actually does

An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is the software companies use to collect and filter applications. Before a recruiter opens your resume, the ATS parses its text, indexes it, and lets the recruiter search and rank candidates by the skills and terms in the job description. If the posting asks for "Kubernetes", "stakeholder management" or "IFRS" and those words never appear on your resume, you can be a great fit on paper and still be sorted to the bottom. A resume checker closes that gap before you apply.

What you get, in one report

  • A match score — how closely your resume aligns with this specific posting, so you can compare versions and know when it's ready to send.
  • Missing keywords — the skills, tools and terms the job asks for that your resume doesn't mention yet, listed so you can add the ones that are genuinely true for you.
  • A tailored copy — a separate version of your resume rewritten to speak the posting's language, leaving your original untouched.
  • An editable cover letter — drafted from your real experience and the posting, matching your template.

Why a browser-based checker is different

Most ATS checkers ask you to create an account and upload your resume to their servers, then meter how many scans you get before a paywall. Folium works the other way around: your resume lives in your browser, the check runs when you ask for it, and the text isn't stored afterward. Your email, phone number and photo are never sent — only the wording that actually needs analysing.

How to raise your score honestly

  • Mirror the posting's language. If it says "customer success" and you wrote "client support", align the wording where it's genuinely the same work.
  • Add the real skills you left out. The missing-keyword list often surfaces tools you actually use but forgot to mention.
  • Put keywords where they belong. Skills in your skills section, tools inside the bullet where you used them — not a hidden block of white text (ATS and recruiters both catch that).
  • Never claim what you can't do. A high score gets you read; the interview is where it has to be true.

Frequently asked questions

Is the ATS resume checker free?

Yes, completely. Check your resume against any job description, see your score and missing keywords, and download the tailored copy — no account, no payment.

What is an ATS match score?

It estimates how well your resume aligns with a specific job description — the overlap between the skills, tools and terms the posting asks for and the ones your resume contains. Higher means fewer relevant keywords are missing.

Is my resume data kept private?

Your resume is stored only in your browser. When you run a check, the text is sent once to generate the report and isn't stored afterward; your email, phone and photo are never sent.

Will it rewrite my resume automatically?

It creates a separate tailored copy, so your original is never touched. You review every change, edit anything, and only then download the PDF.

Do keywords guarantee I pass the ATS?

No tool can guarantee that. Matching the posting's language genuinely helps, but the checker will never invent experience you don't have — it surfaces real gaps for you to address honestly.
